All of my life I was in hiding
Wishing there was someone just like you
Now that you're here, now that I've found you
I know that you're the one to pull me through

Full Name: Andromeda Elladora Tonks
Nicknames: Dromeda, Andi
Age/Birthday: 25, July 8, 1953
House and Years Attended: Slytherin, 1964-1971
Blood Status: Pureblood
Occupation: Andromeda is a stay at home Mum. She tutors her daughter Nymphadora at home.
Alliance: Neutral. She has no desire to publically allign herself to one cause or the other, but if push came to shove she would support the Order.
Boggart: A few years ago it would've been her father. Currently, what she fears the most is losing her husband and daughter. It would be them in some sort of danger or pain.
Patronus: Never cast one. If she ever did and it took on its corporeal form it would be a lark. "Closely connected to symbolism is the lark's association with lovers. Since the lark was the bird which heralded the dawn, it also signaled the time for lovers to part." This would be a represenation of her early relationship with Ted Tonks.

Personality: Growing up, Andromeda behaved the way she was expected to. She was very elitist, and went along with the mindset that being a pureblood made her superior to everyone less than pure. She kept her chin up above parallel to the ground and stuck her nose up to anyone who questioned her superiority. Andromeda was everything one would expect from a member of the Noble House of Black.

When Andromeda left her family to be with Ted, she did not realize how much of a lifestyle adjustment she was going to have to make. It was a very difficult transition. The first time she had to clean a bathroom (even with magic), she stuck her nose up and refused to do it. Going from never having to lift a finger to suddenly having to do everything for herself was a big deal. While she didn't regret the choice she made to follow her heart, Andromeda did not think through all the changes she was going to have to make in her everyday life. She had to adjust to living with Muggles, which was an experience all in itself. Television, cars, jeans; it was very overwhelming for her. Being in the more relaxed atmosphere of the Tonks household helped loosen her up a bit, though. While she was still always well-mannered, Andromeda learned to laugh more often, and she also learned the value of doing things by herself. Cleaning sort of became an obsession after a while. When she and Ted finally did get their own place, she was cleaning all the time, and mostly by hand; the muggle way.

Over time, Andromeda became more humble and open-minded. Her affections and emotions were heavily guarded growing up, and sometimes she still struggles with that. It was quite a transition for her going from living in the Black family to becoming a Tonks, no matter how much she loved her husband. She's gotten a lot better at expressing herself (in ways other than a spoiled temper tantrum or a nasty glare). She has come to find that she's quite fun-loving and adventurous when she wants to be, and those are sides to her personality she loves to explore (especially with her daughter). She's not afraid to look silly, crawl around on the floor, or roll around in the yard with her daughter. Nymphadora was the one who really brought out her more natural, relaxed side. Sometimes she's a little strict, especially when it comes to education, nutrition, and hygiene. But most of the time she finds herself laughing and beaming brightly when she's around her little girl.

Family and Friends (list relationships with them):

Cygnus and Druella Black (Parents). As a child, Andromeda preferred the company of her father to that of her mother. Druella wanted very much for her girls to be perfect ladies and raised them as such. Cygnus, having produced no sons, did not let that taint his appreciation for his daughters. He spoiled the three of them like princesses. Andromeda appreciated her father's gifts, but valued his attention more. She loved to hear him tell stories of their ancestors and talk of his travels. When she was shunned from the family due to her relationship with Ted Tonks, it was her father who banished her. Her father's words cut deeply and she has never forgotten the hateful words and looks he gave her.

Bellatrix Lestrange (older sister). Andromeda idolized her older sister when they were children. She tried very hard to emulate Bellatrix and followed her around quite often. When Andromeda first came to Hogwarts, she stayed close to Bellatrix for her first two years. As she got older, she came more into her own and strayed from her sister's shadow, earning her own status in school. When she began exploring her new found independence, that was when their relationship became a bit more strained. Andromeda started thinking for herself, and in different ways than Bellatrix. After she began her relationship with Ted Tonks, she distanced herself even more. By then, Bellatrix had left Hogwarts. Andromeda hated to keep secrets from her older sister, and hated lying to her even more. They no longer have a relationship, but she thinks of Bella everyday.

Narcissa Malfoy (younger sister). While Andromeda looked up to Bellatrix, she babied her little sister Narcissa. She hated her at first, as a two year old who had previously been getting all of the attention. As she got a little older however, she saw Narcissa as something like a babydoll and treated her as such. Though she wasn't as close to Narcissa as she was Bellatrix, Andromeda loved Narcissa dearly and thought the world of her. Narcissa's beauty and grace were qualities Andromeda aspired to, and wished she posessed so naturally. She misses Cissy very much.

Ted Tonks (husband). Andromeda and Ted did not hit it off right away. Andromeda stuck her nose up at him many times when their paths crossed. He was a mudblood, after all. Through a series of events, endless persistance, and undeniable attraction, a romance blossomed (to be detailed in her history).

Nymphadora Tonks (daughter). Not long after getting married, Andromeda and Ted were blessed with the birth of their daughter. While most parents believe their children to be special, it really was the case with Nymphadora. The girl was born a metamorphmagus, an extremely rare gift.

While she was growing up, Andromeda was made to socialize with many other well-off pureblooded children her age. She was friends and acquaintences of nearly all of them. But none of them would probably give her the time of day now, and that suits her fine.

Appearance (paragraph minimum.): Andromeda was born of the Black family, which meant she was blessed with beauty from the moment she was conceived. She looks very much like her elder sister, save for her hair being a deep brunette and her features a bit softer and less extreme. Despite her beauty, her posture is naturally a bit awkward which she always had to hide. Her smile is a little crooked, so she has to compensate by smirking a little to one side to make it appear straight. Her figure was similar to her sisters', though she was not as blessed as them when it came to her curves; her curves were not nearly as pronounced. Having a baby helped a little in that area, but after six years of running around after a hyperactive little girl, Andromeda is just as thin as she was before.
.
Sexuality: Heterosexual.
Achievements (OWLS, NEWTS, Animagus, Quidditch, etc.): Andromeda is a very accomplished witch. She had to be, growing up in her house. Her talents did not all come naturally, though. She had to work very hard to achieve her OWLS and NEWTS. Her best subject was Transfiguration, which she excelled in.
Hobbies (Quidditch, Astronomy, Chess, Gob Stones): Her skills in Transfiguration were probably derived from her artistic abilities. Andromeda has an affection towards the Arts and loves to paint and sculpt.

Biography (three paragraphs minimum): Andromeda Elladora Black was born on July 8th, 1953; the second of three daughters to Cygnus and Druella Black. She always did as she was told, though she did exhibit bouts of sass every now and then; the underlying presence of a firecracker waiting to burst free, little did her family know. For the most part, she simply followed her older sister Bellatrix's example and tried her best to be the perfect little girl her mother expected her to be. She held firmly to the belief that being a pureblood made her above everyone else, and stuck to that for most of her early life. This did not change until a few years into her education at Hogwarts.

Andromeda stayed close to her older sister for her first two years in school. She focused on doing her best and working hard to perform the spells and acquire the skills required for her classes. It baffled her a little that she wasn't getting top marks, and others who were not pureblooded like her were doing better than she was. It was this disturbing notion that sparked the thought in Andromeda's head that perhaps she wasn't as superior as she thought. Whenever she tried to ask one of her peers or even her family members about this subject, she was laughed at or told that she just wasn't working hard enough.

One person who did turn out to be a reliable confidant was a muggle-born Andromeda had many classes with, Ted Tonks. Andromeda had often caught him looking at her, and turned him down or stuck her nose up at him several times whenever he approached her in the past. As time drew on however, she let him get gradually closer to her to the point where she felt she could confide in him. He listened to her, about her issues with her family's beliefs. It was a bit traumatic for her, learning that everything she'd once held to be true really didn't mean anything at all. The more time she spent with him, the more she grew fond of his company. Andromeda found she quite liked the way he smiled at her, as well as pretty much everything about him. She tried to tell herself it was just an infatuation. Even if she did have a newfound understanding of the wizarding world, that didn't mean she could stray from the path that had been laid out for her since before she was born. She kept her friendship with Ted a secret from everyone, and to this day she doesn't know why he went along with it.

As their friendship grew, Andromeda knew deep down that what she felt was not just infatuation. She had genuine feelings for him, which both excited and terrified her. She told no one, and privately dealt with it herself. One night, Ted confessed to her that he had feelings for her, he was in love with her. Andromeda was stunned. Her heart both soared and shattered at the same time, if such a thing is possible. While she wanted desperately to repeat the sentiment, she was too scared of what could come of it. Again, just as she had in years before, she rejected him and spent that night crying in her dorm room. And again, just as he had in years before, Ted persisted. When cornered and pressed to the issue, Andromeda finally admitted she felt the same way and the two kissed, shadowed by the darkness of an empty corridor.

While most other known couples paraded their affections around the school, holding hands and sneaking kisses between classes, Andromeda and Ted kept their relationship secret. Andromeda was still far too attached to her family and feared what could happen should anyone find out about it. Just like their friendship, they met in secret. As much as they loved and cared for each other, the secret became very difficult to maintain. Ted had nothing to hide, and Andromeda had everything to hide. They fought about it quite often. The summer between their sixth and seventh years was nearly unbearable. The secret did not just strain their relationship, but alienated her other friendships and the relationships she had with her sisters and parents. Andromeda became withdrawn. She clammed up often, and was often accused of neglecting the people that were supposed to mean the most to her.

School served as a convenience to help maintain her relationship with Ted. But by the time their seventh year was coming to a close, Andromeda found herself faced with an impossible choice. She either had to end things with Ted and act like everything was okay, or risk everything by confessing what she'd been up to for the past couple of years. Both options made her feel sick. Ultimately in the end, she chose to follow her heart and told her parents she intended to continue her relationship with the muggle-born Ted Tonks and one day hopefully marry him. The aftermath of her decision haunts her to this day. Cygnus Black lashed out at his daughter. He called her a harlot, a traitor, an embarassment, and other equally degrading terms. Her mother joined in, while her sisters no doubt listened on from outside the room. Andromeda tried to defend her relationship, she tried to reason with her father that they were a good match and that it shouldn't matter. She begged her father to let his love for her outshine his pride, but it was no use. Andromeda was banished, not even given the opportunity to pack her things before she was thrown out of the house she grew up in. Subsequently, she was burned off the family tapestry and considered dead by her family.

She showed up on Ted's doorstep that night, not even sure how she got there. Andromeda did not speak for several days, traumatized and in shock over what happened. Once realization hit, the tears came in abundance. It was fortunate for her that Ted's family embraced her and thought very highly of her. Gradually Andromeda came around and was able to function normally again. It took a long time, but she eventually came to terms with her decision. She and Ted were married, and not long after she found out she was pregnant. They welcomed their daughter Nymphadora with open arms.

Andromeda has not had contact with her blood family since the night she left, but she thinks of them often, especially her sisters. She holds no ill-will towards the two of them and misses them desperately. She tries not to dwell on this too much, focusing most of her time and energy on her daughter. With Nymphadora being an Metamorphmagus, Andromeda stays home with her and tutors her privately because Dora is too young to control her abilities all of the time. It is rewarding for Andromeda though, and she considers herself to be very blessed. Her relationship with Ted is very strong, though it took a lot of coaxing for Andromeda to come out of her shell and express her feelings openly. Affections were lost in the Black family, but over the past few years she has learned to express them much more than she once did. Every now and then she might seem a little guarded, but she knows that Ted will call her on it if she starts to take herself too seriously. Old habits sometimes die hard.
